[0:00] This week, OSHA reported that Dollar General Continues to Expose Workers to Unsafe Conditions in the US South. In a March 13th news release, the department of labor and OSHA announced one million dollars a new penalties against Dollar General for repeated safety violations that put workers safety at risk in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Dollar General has incurred nearly 7.5 million dollars in penalties through citations in 23 stores during a brief one year period. Since 2017, OSHA has issued more than 15 million dollars in fines [0:30] inside $1 General and more than 180 inspections nationwide for numerous willful, repeat and serious workplace safety violations related to unsafe conditions. Dollar General workers in the Ocala, Florida and Columbus, Georgia stores experience serious fire hazards like merchandise blocking exits and fire extinguishers and malfunctioning automatic sliding doors. Blocked fire egresses were the principal reason behind the 2012 Dhaka garment factory fire in Bangladesh that killed at least 117 workers. These safety violations are a grave [1:00] problem that must be addressed immediately. This report comes out after Dollar General workers in Irmo, South Carolina went on strike less than 2 months ago for a lot of the same issues cited.
